Virtual Life :: Experience collected by DBE Assignment

The virtual life research was a part of a DBE Assignment of MBA course realized by Stockholm University School of Business and Academy of Economy in Cracow. This new kind of assignment enabled me to collect practical experience of using newest technologies like Web 2.0, including blogging. From other side I the topic of the assignment pushed me to go deeper in new, not known for me area – virtual life, worlds and societies. Such practical kind of assignments is in my opinion the most effective way of learning.

The new trends in internet like Web 2.0 must be tracked by modern managers. Currently, Internet is like telephone or electricity – the human civilization based on in. One of my friends says: that currently each computer without internet is worth nothing. Do you think the same?

Exchanging experiences with Iza, who is leading blog: Blog Proof, I see one general disadvantage of all new trends of Web 2.0. All of them consumes extremely time of involved people. I saw this analyzing virtual life and also leading blog.

All of Web 2.0 are very trendy now, but in my opinion this situation can changed. Other problem is extremely huge amount of daily generated contents in blogs, which duplicate others information or provide no-worth information. Hmmm, maybe someone sees here an opportunity…

No I’m sure one, that without this practical BDE assignment, probably I would be not able to see all of sides of new technologies! I hope we will have similar opportunities in other subjects too…

It is commonly understood that network [Internet] is an immanent part of computer. It can not be analyzed separately. Once upon a time it was marketing slogan of Sun Microsystems.

Let me be for a while devil’s advocate and be a little bit provocative. You said – it is time consuming. In general – life is time consuming. I would say that all aspects connected with new technologies and trends like Web 2.0 are time saving. Semantic web will contribute to changing and deepening our education and professional development. Certainly it can shorten time of learning, getting information and knowledge. If so, it allow us to spend saved time on our families or other important aspects of life – that is another story. Probably not - saved time will be used for learning and using something new. Web 3.0. ...web X.0.

Is it side effect of technological development? Could be.. But this is a topic for psychologists and sociologists. People should used new technologies opportunities not like gadgets but tools for making their life better. In all aspects. Can we do that? That is very difficult process. And ...time consuming.

Maniana, I concur! I don't think time saved thanks to new technologies will be spent on our families or e.g. on our friends, etc. Although these are the most important things in our lives I believe. After all who will give you a hug when you feel down, who will cheer you up when you had bad experience - avatars??? I very much doubt it..
